SolarWorld hiring 200 for Hillsboro facility

PORTLAND — The Portland Business Journal reports that, after layoffs rocked the once 1,000-strong staff at SolarWorld’s Hillsboro facility and  shrunk the company’s local payroll to 600, the solar panel manufacturer has been hiring back up, getting that number back above 900. The largest crystalline silicon solar producer in the Americas recently finished converting 105,000 square feet of underutilized space at its Hillsboro factory into manufacturing square footage. That means the company is now capable of producing 150 more megawatts-worth of solar panels each year.

Designers planned the new factory to accommodate even more panel production space. The company is considering expanding again in 2017, adding another 100 megawatts of manufacturing capacity.
